True Mode content: This information applies only to True Mode and True Mode worlds.

Aggression is a True Mode exclusive hidden mechanic that makes bosses harder as time goes on, making them use new attacks and making some of the existing ones harder.

Summary

Bosses have an internal value that goes from 0 to 10000. It starts at zero, and increases under certain circumstances. The higher it is, the more likely to choose attacks based on aggression instead of the default method, and it starts choosing solely based on aggression at 5000 to 7500 and higher. When aggression is below 5000, it will naturally decay at a rate of 50 per second.

All of the modified attacks, alongside the choosing method, can be read on the bosses' page

Causes

Aggression can increase based on a number of factors:

  • Passively increases when the player stays outside of the maximum Damage Falloff distance
  • The player deals damage rapidly
  • Dealing large amounts of damage (by default, is considered 1% of the boss' max health, flat increase)
  • Dealing damage while Damage Falloff is high (Grows proportionally to Damage Fallof)
  • Using the Rod of Discord.pngRod of Discord or the Rod of Harmony.pngRod of Harmony increases aggression by 2000 with a 30 seconds cooldown

Additionally, the amount gained can be increased by multipliers:

  • Superarmor has a 2x multiplier
  • Hyperarmor has a 3x multiplier
  • Bosses may have a set multiplier, shown below:
