Version history

Shadows of Abaddon Version 1.2.001 acts as the first public beta of the 1.2 release cycle, released on the official SoA Discord Server on November 1st, 2023. This beta update ports Shadows of Abaddon to the latest vanilla update, "Labor of Love" 1.4.4.9, making it the first version of Shadows of Abaddon to be playable on the 1.4 "Journey's End" series of vanilla updates.

Players should remain aware that this version does not allow for a full playthrough. It is mainly meant as a way to let players try out new things (the focus being Nihilus) while the team aims to release new patches every few weeks or months for more playtesting.

While no functional full playthrough is possible, we have nonetheless added the Beta Coupon that can be crafted into several items for use in the battle against Nihilus, dropped by The Lost Siblings in True Mode.

There will be a notice when progression is possible again. Make sure to check out the discord for further updates!

Highlights

TRUE MODE Expansion - Part 1

  • Can now be activated at the start of the game (Sigil of the Corrupted One given to new player, only usable in Expert Mode, disappears outside of it)
  • Prehardmode Bosses will be reworked starting after this beta launches.
  • Bosses and some enemies receive super- and hyperarmor during certain moves (superarmor: 40% damage reduction, no knockback. hyperarmor: 60% damage reduction, no knockback, debuff immunity).
  • Bosses receive increased stats and new behavior.
  • Bosses and enemies inflict new debuffs (Flesh Wound, Bound, Stun, etc).
  • Bosses have an Aggression value that rises as the battle progresses or by dealing damage rapidly. Will cause the boss to behave much more aggressive and favor some attacks over others.
  • Damage Falloff: When attacking bosses that are far away, damage is reduced. Can be displayed by having a Figher's Visor in the inventory (Effect can be lessened with the new Accuracy stat).
  • Diminishing Returns: A new mechanic that affects certain stats (melee speed, crit chance, polarize, accuracy) that causes you to get less benefit out of a stat the higher it is stacked. Effectiveness will be shown in a new stat window that will be added later.
  • New Stats: Boss Damage, Polarize, Accuracy, Suppression, Crit Damage.
    • Boss Damage increases damage dealt to bosses.
    • Polarize increases damage dealt AND damage taken.
    • Accuracy lessens the effects of Damage Falloff.
    • Suppression lessens the strength of the Shadowflare Vortex debuff. (Appears outside of True Mode as well)
    • Crit damage increases damage of critical hits.
  • Challenge items now have an own slot that appears only in True Mode worlds

Additions

  • Standing inside water in the Cinder Forest/Dunes now gives the player the Hot Spring buff.
  • Added a lot of new sounds. (thanks moob)
  • Added Luxite Ore Chunk, used for crafting the Claymarine and the other classes' equivalents once they are added. It is currently fished up like before, but will have a new method of obtaining it later down the line
  • Added Potion of Suppression.
  • Added Frenzied Animosity.
  • Added the Umbral Follower (AI is currently still a bit WIP)
  • Added B.Ghost's set
  • Added Conductor's set
  • Added Gang-Star's set (bought from Clothier in the desert)
  • Added Okuyasu vanity (bought from Clothier when holding the Slap Hand)
  • Added Malicious set
  • Added Moonburn's set and equipment cube.
  • Added the Fist of Flora
  • Added the Challenger's Glass Soul, currently heavily WIP
  • Added Asthraltite Collar
  • Added Divine Lifeshard
  • Added Gravity Zones, Force Knockback, rumble effects, camera zoom and focus as well as boss titles to be utilized by bosses and enemies (mostly in true mode).
  • Added Tuff
  • Lapis and Bismuth now generate in geode minibiomes, which also spawn their respective enemies (lapis and bismuth still generates outside of them, but more rarely)
  • Added the Defender's Bulwark, Radiant Amulet and Starstream Veil.
  • Added Living Static Dye.
  • Added Dealmaker.
  • Added Essence of Fury, a combination of prehardmode and hardmode potions.
  • Added Cinder Dirt. It now replaces normal dirt in the Cinder Forest

Changes

  • Renamed and tweaked a BUNCH of things (I forgor)
  • Flare Elixir has to be used directly now
  • Specter Orbs no longer phase through walls.
  • The Flame Razed Forest will be referred to as the Cinder Forest from now on, matching the name it has in SoTR.
  • The underground of the Cinder Forest will now be referred to as the Infernal Depths.
  • The Scorched Sands are now referred to as the Cinder Dunes
  • Water in the Infernal Depths is now orange.
  • Water in the Cinder Forest received a more green-ish tint.
  • When the Cinder Forest is generated, moss is removed.
  • Ember Rock now generates at the bottom of underground lakes in the Infernal Depths.
  • Nerfed the damage of the Scarf of the Undying Flame's projectiles from 2000 to 800.
  • Due to an issue with the Oxidator dealing more damage than intended, we have disabled the Oxidator Solar rocket launcher in all activities.
  • The reforge prices for Challenge items have been significantly lowered.
  • Asthraltite armor no longer gives immunity to Shadowflare Vortex.
    • Instead, it gives the player 30% suppression, which gives them back some strength that's been taken away by the Shadowflare Vortex debuff.
    • The set bonus has also been reworked: It now allows the player to parry most projectiles
  • Some sibling armors have been renamed:
  • Saving Grace wisps now move towards the player from farther away.
  • Text now reads from a localization file, allowing translations for the mod.
  • Made Sinister Knives obtainable.
  • Increased homing speed of Lamp of Cinders' projectiles, they also only explode when hitting enemies. A more in-depth rework is coming eventually.
  • The siblings now have an own kind of health bar that draws at the top of the screen (Novaniel still has his bar)
  • Made the Twinfury hardmode exclusive, like it should've been from the start.
  • Royal Treads renamed to Royal Runners and Warp Tracers to Void Spurs. Both accessories had their flight boost nerfed (50% to 20%, 80% to 30%), now additionally increase jump height and speed, can now be equipped at the same time and prevent fall damage.
  • Made several graphical improvements (shockwaves, glow, bloom, shaders, etc)
  • Sigil of the Corrupted One no longer drops from Expert Moon Lord's first defeat. Instead, it appears in a small mini-cinematic during the early moments of a fresh expert world.
  • Sentry projectiles of the mod and vanilla are now properly recognized as such for certain effects.
  • Summon weapons no longer display "1 minute duration" in their tooltip
  • Nerfed the flight time of Jensen's Talisman and Devil Wings.
  • The Shadowflare Vortex BG no longer has a purple light effect. Instead, it creates faint gray/white light.
  • The mod now increases the buff cap by 33.
  • Nerfed the Nightmare Fuel Potion's damage increase buff from 15% to 2%.
  • Removed the 20 defense buff from Draconium Skin.
  • Post-Moon Lord potions now have a duration of 10 minutes.
  • Nerfed the duration of the Prismatic Surge light crosses from 2 to 0.8 seconds and increased their hit cooldown from 10 to 20 ticks.
  • Queen's Swarm small wasps no longer penetrate, increasing their damage output
  • Profaned Sceptre is now a Territory relic.
  • Renamed Nightmare Spirits to Nightmare Adherent, due to "Nightmare Spirit" being too general and all nightmare enemies being nightmare spirits.
  • Renamed Onyx Deathbringer to Malum Ifrit, a rework is inbound soon (if not done by the time this goes live)
  • Renamed Quasar Kunai to Interdiction. It will receive new mechanics once the Revenant additions go live fully.
  • Some small tweaks done to Distant Spark and Martian Nanoblade (siblings-tier weapons will all be reworked eventually as well)

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed Nebula Life Boosters not spawning at all (instead of just being disabled during post Moon Lord boss battles).
  • Hopefully fixed some all damage effects not actually adding to player.allDamage. (should be fixed now with the addition of damage classes maybe hopefully idk)
  • Hopefully fixed a syncing issue in multiplayer regarding True Mode and Erosion location.
  • Fixed Reggie sometimes giving you 0 of an item.
  • Fixed the Thermal Throw somehow having renamed itself back.
  • Fixed some issues related to boss summoning (the Heir's Authority should work in Multiplayer now).
  • Fixed the tooltip of the Nightmare Catcher.
  • Fixed Raw Bismuth and Raw Lapis not being detected by the metal detector.
  • Fixed the Stone of Resonance's and Wild Gemstone's effects stacking.
  • Fixed Erazor's Glass Heart dropping outside of true mode.
  • Fixed the Piglin Army not appearing in the boss log until Skeletron is defeated. (However, boss checklist calls are currently disabled)
  • Fixed the Lost Siblings empowering themselves too early.
  • Fixed the Scarf of the Undying Flame firing too many projectiles.
  • Fixed more projectiles not having the correct damage type.
  • Fixed the Wither debuff making the player rainbow-colored.
  • Fixed an issue with some bullets having an invalid vanilla rarity, causing some issues with other mods as well as the game itself in rare cases.
  • Fixed Scorched Sandstorms happening in the underground Cinder Dunes.
  • Fixed the Stardust Slime multiplying infinitely on occassion.
  • Fixed enemies from other mods spawning in Zerg-like levels when the Piglin Army is currently active. (might still happen)
  • Fixed the Whirlpool triggering on dummies.
  • Fixed Bismuth Hammers triggering themselves.
  • Fixed an issue with Abaddon despawning with Fargo's installed.
  • Fixed an inconsistency with Nuba's Blessing being available before Erazor has been defeated in True Mode.
  • And way more that I honestly forgot to put in my changelog, but they're there trust me :)

Removals

  • Removed Abyssal Grenade. Replaced by Eschaton (WIP currently)
